The visiting scholar program provides an opportunity for internationally trained junior faculty and young investigators to gain exposure to the cutting edge research taking place at South Texas Accelerated Research Therapeutics (START).
START is without a doubt, the largest Phase I Drug Development program in the world and is uniquely positioned within the framework of a comprehensive clinical cancer center (The START Center for Cancer Care) as well as a very robust preclinical in vivo facility.
International fellows will have the opportunity to observe, train and receive mentorship from key thought leaders in the field of drug development during their tenure at START. They will be able to acquire their knowledge and expertise within a setting where they can translate data from the bench to the bedside, while concurrently achieving an understanding of:
- Clinical trial design
- New targeted therapies
- Key regulatory issues surrounding new drug development
- Preparation of letters of intent and preclinical proposals
- Conducting preclinical studies and analyzing data
- Manuscript preparation
This is also a very exciting opportunity for START as it allows us to mentor young investigators who can take their knowledge and expertise back to their respective countries, ultimately strengthening the global effort to accelerate the development of new agents. Through imparting our knowledge to international trainees, we feel that we will be to enrich the knowledge of the international drug development community, and also facilitate collaborations with international investigators.
